2002
Wheels & Wings Airshow &
Car Show,
Millville, NJ
4-5 May 2002
Amongst
the largest crowd ever at a southern New Jersey event and under beautiful skies,
nearly 100 aircraft joined hundreds of classic cars and motorcycles to celebrate
the 200th Anniversary of Millville and the 10th Wheels
& Wings Airshow at the Millville Airport in Millville, New Jersey.
Highlighting
the airshow were the USAF Thunderbirds making their first ever appearance in
Millville. Among the other
performers during the 6 hour aerial festivities included the US Army Golden
Knights, Red Baron Squadron, Army AH-64 Apache Demo, Drew Hurley, Michael
Mancuso, Split Image Aerobatic Team, Roger Lehnert, Kevin Russo SNJ Aerobatics,
and warbird flights from a B-25 Mitchell, TBM Avenger, T-28s, T-6s, and T-34s.
Flybys by the Dover AFB based C-5 Galaxy and the US Coast Guard's HH-65B
Dauphin capped off a fantastic flying display.
Opening the event on Saturday was a great tribute to the men and women of our US
Armed Forces and it also sent a clear message to all that would do harm to our
nation and our freedom. As
the Golden Knights brought in the nation's flag, a wonderful demonstration by
the B-2 Stealth Bomber took place. This
was a defining moment in the history of Millville, New Jersey, and our country
as the corridor between Washington,
DC and New York City came back to life with the sounds and sights of an airshow.
Crowd estimates show that over 80,000 people attended the two day event at the Millville Airport. They were treated to a great variety of vendors and static display aircraft from all over the United States including an F/A-18D Hornet, several FAA aircraft, a T-6A Texan II, another B-25J Mitchell, a UH-3H SeaKing, a trio of KingAir aircraft, T-1A Jayhawk, vintage jets like a Fouga and Venom, and classics like the Spartan Executive and several Staggerwings. Variety was key at the 2002 Wheels & Wings Airshow.
Exhibitors included the Red Baron Flightline Club and the US Air Force Experience and lines were long all day for these two popular attractions.
We would like to thank all of the many volunteers, the DRBA, the Millville Army Air Field Museum, the FAA, and the City of Millville for all of their support. A special word of thanks to Allen Consulting for the vendor coordination and the William J Hughes Technical Center for housing the USAF Thunderbirds.
We would also like to thank all of the fly-ins that participated in the event. Over 115 fly-ins attended on Saturday and we were happy that there was room for all to enjoy the airshow.
After this year, everyone now sees Millville as a premier location for an airshow! Listing of Static Display Aircraft in 2002
