2003
Community Days at Lancaster Airport, Lititz, PA
23-24 August 2003
More
than 35,000 airshow fans and aviation enthusiasts came out to the Lancaster
Airport for the FREE airshow and static display during the 2003 Lancaster
Airport Community Days on 23-24 August 2003.
New for 2003 was the airshow flying portion of the event that took place on Saturday. The huge crowd was treated to flying displays from the Firebirds Delta Aerobatic Team, Yellow Book USA Pitts Aerobatic Team, Split Image Aerobatic Team, Drew Hurley in his YAK-55 and the USAF A-10 Demonstration Team from Pope AFB, NC.
The two most memorable moments of the event were
the opening flyby by the USAF KC-10A Extender long range tanker as well as the
final USAF Heritage Flight with the P-38 Lightning and the USAF A-10 Thunderbolt
II.
Along
with a great flying display that lasted over 4 hours under perfect weather
conditions, was the Collings Foundation's B-17 and B-24 along with numerous
other static display aircraft. Dozens of warbirds joined
military aircraft such as the UH-60A Blackhawk, A-10 Thunderbolt II, EC-130
Commando Solo, and T-6A Texan II to showcase a great display of the
commemoration of the Centennial of Powered Flight.
