2006
Wings Over Wyoming Airshow, Casper, WY
22-23 July 2006
Not
since 1989 had an airshow been in Casper, Wyoming.
2006 changed history as the McMurry Foundation and the Natrona County
International Airport teamed up with David Schultz Airshows LLC to produce the
2006 Wings Over Wyoming Airshow on 22-23 July 2006.
Nowhere else in
the region was their more diversity of aircraft on the ground and in the air.
This year’s event featured 5 MiGs on display with 2 in the air daily
and 3 on static display. The
event also featured the best of the best of the United States military and
aircraft from Canada as well.
While the USAF
Thunderbirds only flew on Sunday afternoon, the full show daily included the US
Army Golden Knights jumping twice on Saturday and once on Sunday, the USAF F-15E
Strike Eagle Demonstration Team and USAF Heritage Flight, the US Navy F/A-18F
Super Hornet Demonstration Team and Legacy Flight, and a Saturday only 3000
gallon waterdrop from the Wyoming Air National Guard in their C-130H Hercules.
Civilian
aerobatics included the Firebirds
Aerobatic Team of 2 Extra 300s, Manfred Radius in his Salto II Sailplane, and
Daryl Lowey in his Citrabia. The
airshow was Daryl’s first in the United States and he also helped tow Manfred
to altitude each afternoon. Wings
over Wyoming also featured the MiG Fury Fighters in their MiG-15, MiG-17, and
FJ-4 Fury. Airshow
patrons also got to see several P-51 aerobatic maneuvers by John Bagley on
Saturday and flybys by Danny Summers in his EA-1 Skyraider on Sunday.
Brig. General (Ret.) Bill Anders also participated in his P-51D Mustang
with his son Alan Anders participating in his AD-4N Skyraider.
The static display
contained a great deal of variety with the Canadian Forces represented by a
CT-142 Gonzo, CT-155 Hawk, and CT-156 Harvard II.
FEDEX opened up a pair of Cessna 206A and 206B Caravans, an ATR-42, and
Boeing 727. The Commemorative
Air Force was well represented with an Ercoupe, PT-17 Stearman, and TBM Avenger.
Other civilian display aircraft included a Tri-Pacer, Cessna 170, a pair
of Aeroncas, several Cessna variants, a UPS Merlin, and a Columbia.
Local air racer Jim Good was also in attendance with his T-6, T-34,
MiG-15, and MiG-17 on display.
The United States
military was well represented in the static display as well with an F-16C
Falcon, T-1A Jayhawk, KC-135R Stratotanker, a C-130H Hercules, an HC-130H
Hercules, and a T-34C Mentor.
While hot each day, the event was safely conducted with the USAF Thunderbirds joining the fun at the Natrona County International Airport on Sunday afternoon for their first appearance in the area since 1989.
